Would you like to know how you can help? We are a local Fort Worth animal charity and we need your support to help at-risk animals.

As Tarrant County’s only private no kill shelter, Animal Hope has focused on medical rehabilitation and the rescue of at-risk animals from high volume shelters since 2004. All tax deductible charity donations made by the public go to our medical fund, so you know that your donations to Animal Hope are only being used to help at-risk animals (unless you specify otherwise).  We do not euthanize animals in our program absent a chronic, unmanageable medical condition that affects their quality of life, a persistent bite risk or determination that an animal is dangerous.

Dogs

On intake, all of our dogs receive a thorough physical exam from one of our doctors, baseline labwork (CBC and blood chemistry), parasite screens (both blood and intestinal) so that we can determine if they have any health issues we need to address.  Any issues we discover are treated at our cost.  This is in addition to spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations, which is standard shelter vetting.

Dogs in our care go outside to the play yards four times a day with other dogs, giving all of our guests social and play time to reduce kennel stress.  We have a treadmill for active dogs that need vigorous exercise, and implement training programs for longer term guests.

Keeping our guests healthy in both mind and body is one of the ways that we are able to find homes for dogs that other shelters cannot.

In addition, because we are a small facility, we know our animals very intimately.  We also see thousands of animals a week at shelters with whom we partner, so we are also proficient at evaluating dogs before accepting them into our system.  This allows us to match up dogs to appropriate families through knowledgeable and informed adoption counseling, and makes us better able to spend time with prospective adopters to find out what sort of companion truly fits their family and household.

Cats

On intake, all of our cats also receive a thorough physical exam from one of our doctors, parasite screens, FeLV/FIV testing, and treatment of any existing health conditions, plus spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.

In many high volume shelters, if a cat comes in with or develops an upper respiratory infection or ringworm (or other contagious shelter borne illness) they are euthanized to minimize cross contamination risks in the shelter.  Animals in our care are never euthanized for treatable, shelter-borne illnesses, and we are able to minimize the risk of disease in our guests by maintaining a low shelter density.  One of the reasons we are able to help so many cats while keeping our shelter density low is because of our retail partnerships with eight Petco and Pet Supermarket stores across the DFW metroplex.
